Romans 6
Dead to Sin, Alive to God
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. – Romans 6:23
When we are baptized, we are baptized into Christ's death. That means we are killing off our old sinful selves. Because Christ resurrected from the dead, we also have this new life in God.
Slaves of Righteousness
You are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness. – Romans 6:16
Everyone worships someone or something. Therefore, everyone serves someone or something. Which means that everyone is a slave to someone or something.
Even if that someone is yourself, you are motivated to do what glorifies the object of your worship.
Paul rolls it all up into two categories: you are either a slave to sin or a slave to righteousness. Everything that does not fall into the narrow umbrella of righteousness goes under sin.
