Do Not Pass Judgment On One Another

Let not the one who eats despise the one who abstains, and let not the one who abstains pass judgment on the one who eats, for God has welcomed him. – Romans 14:3

Salvation is available for all, not just the Jews. Paul is making the point that people over the world will have different customs and cultures. Remember, his audience is the Jews in Rome who are very much stuck to their religious ceremonies. He reminds them that the Jews are not the center of the world.

Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand. – Romans 14:4

Furthermore, we do not reserve the right to judge people of other households, or of other cultures, for they do not belong within our realm of jurisdiction. They rollup to their authorities, and we rollup to our authorities, and the authorities may usher judgment differently.

The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. The one who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since he gives thanks to God, while the one who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God. For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's. – Romans 14:6-8

Regardless of how we behave, we should do so in honor of the Lord. This is the one uncompromising aspect of being a Christian. If we simply follow this one rule, there's no need to be too detailed on the very specifics.

Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God... So then each of us will give an account of himself to God. – Romans 14:10,12

Finally, we will all stand trial before God's judgment one day. That is why Paul emphasizes that honoring the Lord in everything we do matters much more than the specific ceremonies we perform.
