Galatians 1
No Other Gospel
I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel–not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. – Galatians 1:6-7
The Gospel is purely this: that all have sinned against God, that the wages of sin are death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Anyone who tries to tell you anything different is a blasphemer.
People will try to convince you to glorify man instead of God. That is wrong. Unfortunately, this also comes from within the church. The fact that Paul writes the church of Galatia is evidence of this that it happened back in the day. We should not expect churches in our times to be exempt from this behavior.
People will try to convince you to base your faith on your circumstances. Maybe you'll feel good when times are good, such as when you live in a nice house, eat well, dress nicely, and the bills are paid. But what of when things go south and persecution comes your way? This is also wrong. Unfortunately, I've seen people fall away from the faith because they believed in not the true Gospel but the prosperity gospel.
People will try to convince you to compromise on your faith. Surely it's okay to indulge yourself in a little bit of sin. It's only a small lie. It's only a small steal. You deserve to do it for your own sake. Again, wrong. The moment we start to compromise on small aspects of faith is when we allow ourselves to disconnect from our relationship with God. And the more we do this, the more momentum it builds for us to be completely separated from God.
We need to be careful of false gospels from all around. While it's easy to discern false gospels that come from the world, it's much harder to accurately distinguish false gospels that come from within the church. Unfortunately, that's reality. Jesus did say "I never knew you" to those who proclaim themselves as Christ's servants. If that doesn't scare you, I don't know what will.
